Psychologist

About the Role
  • Seeking a full time, experienced or provisional Psychologist to work in a paediatric setting in Broome. Provide targeted and/or brief psychological interventions to children, adolescents, families, and carers (including those from culturally and linguistically diverse populations) presenting with any/all of the following: early life trauma, attachment/relationship issues, challenging behaviours, neurodevelopmental/neurological disability and mental health conditions. The Broome team is supported by a full time administration officer with a clinical team comprised of 1x full time psychologist and 2x occupational therapists. The successful candidate will deliver therapy support programs to children, adolescents, families, and carers and deliver accurate and timely recording of service activity and case notes in compliance with National Disability Insurance Scheme standards and regulations. The successful candidate will liaise with community and health agencies regarding clinical management of clients and educate other professionals and carers in allied health matters. The successful candidate will drive a manual motor vehicle, including over large distances (>400km) and on unsealed roads.
Experience & Skills
  • Ideally seeking a Psychologist with a minimum of two years’ experience. General or provisional AHPRA registration as a Psychologist is essential. The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. They will have the ability to work independently, use initiative and set priorities as well as work constructively within a team and observe a professional code of conduct. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, a high level of attention to detail and experience with relevant computer applications.

Kimberley

The Kimberley is located in the north-west region of Western Australia. It covers an area of 421,451 square kilometres, an area three times the size of England, but is home to only 35,748 people. A relatively high proportion of the residents are Aboriginal Australians. The population swells seasonally with an influx of tourists and a mobile working population.

The major towns of the Kimberley include Broome and Derby on the west coast, with Kununurra and Wyndham in the east. The region has a thriving economy, based on both tourism and the richness of its natural resources. It enjoys regular commercial flights from Perth and interstate capital cities. The Kimberley has a tropical summer and dry winter and this diverse climate changes the landscape from season to season.

There are approximately 70 general practitioners including GP registrars in the region, nine in private practice, 33 in Aboriginal Medical Services, two in the Royal Flying Doctor Service and 26 hospital based general practitioners.
