Across Western Australia, the Health Professionals Network (HPN) program is evolving to meet the unique needs of each region, delivering innovative education and peer support opportunities that are shaped by local input, regional priorities, and strong collaboration.

Each of the seven regional HPNs takes a tailored approach to supporting their members, resulting in a diverse and vibrant calendar of events and initiatives. In the Kimberley, Morning Minds sessions offer a short, sharp professional development boost before the workday begins, while the Ear Health Training series was rolled out in response to high local demand, improving skills in managing a common but often overlooked area of care. Wound care workshops were also adapted in response to local rostering practices.

At the other end of the state, the Great Southern Health Professionals Network initiated Education Breakfasts to bring together multidisciplinary teams to discuss shared challenges and solutions.

What all these innovations have in common is that they are grounded in community and co-designed with the professionals they aim to support. Local coordinators maintain close connections with members and respond quickly to emerging needs.

These programs are made possible thanks to the incredible support of partners such as Cancer Council WA, Diabetes WA, and the many passionate health professionals – both local and visiting – who generously contribute their time and expertise.

By creating tailored, engaging, and practical education opportunities in each region, the HPN program is doing more than upskilling the workforce; it’s building strong, local communities of practice that improve care, strengthen referral pathways, and support the ongoing wellbeing of rural and remote health professionals.
