Professional Development Grants for Partners

Partners of Western Australian rural medical practitioners, nurses, midwives, dentists, allied health professionals and Aboriginal health practitioners/workers who wish to enhance their career and employment opportunities while living in a Western Australian rural location can apply for funding to assist with the cost of training and education.

Applications are now open for Partner Education Grants 2024-2025.

We welcome your application if you are living in a regional Western Australian location and are the partner of a currently practising rural Western Australian:

  • Medical practitioner
  • Nurse
  • Midwife
  • Dentist
  • Allied health professional
  • Aboriginal health practitioner/worker

What is the eligibility?

You are eligible for a Partner Education Grant if you are:

  • The partner of a currently practising Western Australian rural medical practitioner, nurse, midwife, dentist, allied health professional or Aboriginal health practitioner/worker.
  • Living in a regional, rural or remote Western Australian location with your medical practitioner, nurse, midwife, allied health or Aboriginal health practitioner/worker partner.
  • Not the recipient of a Partner Education Grant in the past two financial years (last time you received it would have been July 2022 or before).
  • Undertaking professional development within this financial year.
  • Able to provide Rural Health West with original tax receipts/invoices demonstrating personal payment of training or education expenses mentioned in your application, NO LATER than 6 June 2025
  • Not in receipt of any other scholarships, bursaries or grants that support this training or education.
  • Willing to provide a brief article and photo to be used for promotion by Rural Health West, if successful.

Please note: Meeting eligibility criteria is not a guarantee of receiving a Partner Education Grant.

What can a Partner Education Grant be used for?

Financial support via a grant can be used towards the following. Please contact us if you have any questions:

  • Course fees
  • Professional development such as webinars, online courses , conference registration fees
  • Postgraduate studies
  • Membership to professional associations
  • Training related expenses such as course resources, direct travel and accommodation costs

  • Certificate III in Children Services
  • Diploma of Graphic Design
  • Medical Reception and Practice Management training
  • Driving lessons
  • Barista course
  • Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Certificate IV in Small Business
  • Graduate Certificate Counselling
  • Flying and Navigation training
  • Real Estate license
  • Personal Training
  • Safety training and tickets

How do I apply for a Partner Education Grant?

  1. Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.

How are Partner Education Grants paid to recipients?

Successful recipients will need to complete and submit a Rural Health West reimbursement form along with tax receipts/invoices demonstrating payment of your expenses in line with the approved professional development.

All completed paperwork must be submitted to Rural Health West NO LATER than 6 June 2025; however, the sooner you return all paperwork the sooner your Partner Education Grant will be paid into your nominated bank account. Please allow 30 days for your payment to be processed.

Partner Education Grants are administered within financial years (July-June), with limited funding available. Grants will be approved as they are submitted, according to available funds.

Can I apply more than once?

Only one application can be approved per partner per financial year, and there must be at least two years between successful applications.

Who funds the Partner Education Grants?

Partner Education Grants are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and administered by Rural Health West.
