Managing Depression and Suicidality: GP Peer Group Learning | Various Locations

Strengthen your skills, confidence, and care in managing your patient’s depression and suicidality.

Join peers and local Psychiatrist and GP with a special interest in mental health care, for interactive case-based discussion and meal. This 2 hour peer group extends previous workshops and GP Management of Patient Depression and Suicidality online modules. This is your opportunity to gain:

  • Direct, in-person Q&A and discussion with an experienced psychiatrist
  • Practical strategies for managing complex mental health presentations, grounded in local clinical experiences
  • Greater confidence in assessment and prescribing decisions
  • Updated information on local referral pathways and service

 Eligibility and Fees

The following health professional are encouraged to register:

  • General practitioners
  • GP registrars
  • clinicians within Aboriginal Medical Services
  • hospital based general practitioners
  • medical students, and
  • other health professionals directly involved in providing mental health care

A $50 registration fee includes dinner and is fully refundable upon attendance.

 Travel support

Rural Health West may provide support for rural health professionals attending Managing Depression and Suicidality | GP Peer Group sessions within their region.

Participants are encouraged to prioritise their personal safety and wellbeing when determining which location, they will attend a Managing Depression and Suicidality GP Peer Group, along with their travel and accommodation needs.

The following travel support may be available to rural health professionals who need to travel within the region to attend. Please email [email protected] to check your eligibility.

  • Fuel reimbursement – up to $150
  • 1 night accommodation – up to $250

Full attendance is a condition of reimbursement. You will be required to provide a copy of tax invoices for fuel and accommodation when submitting your claim.

Accreditation

The Managing Depression and Suicidality GP Peer Group learning sessions are accredited with RACGP and ACRRM for 2 hours RP.

 Online Modules

Whilst not a prerequisite, the Managing Depression and Suicidality GP Peer Group learning sessions can be paired with GP Management of Patient Depression and Suicidality online modules. Online modules can be found HERE

The Rural Health West CPD REACT+ workshop is designed to assist Western Australian Visiting Medical Practitioners to maintain their emergency knowledge and skills, and gain formal assessment towards their emergency credentialing, as required by WA Country Health Service. Covering medical emergencies, major trauma and cardiac arrest in adults and children, and associated lifesaving procedural skills training, REACT+ is a highly interactive workshop. Participants are provided with audio-visual pre-learning materials and the course consists almost entirely of small group practical skills stations and simulated scenarios.
