Rural Health West is proud to support rural and remote communities across WA to participate in the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) Targeted Recruitment stream, an initiative that enables doctors to undertake GP or Rural Generalist Fellowship training via distance education and remote supervision while living and working in underserved areas.

It’s a win-win model: communities benefit from workforce stability and continuity of care, while doctors can remain in one location and work toward Fellowship.

Rural Health West works closely with both practices and candidates throughout the entire process, from recruitment and eligibility guidance to preparation of applications and ongoing support during placement. We help assess each practice’s readiness to ensure a safe and sustainable training environment, including adequate clinical support and long-term workforce planning.

During the 2024-2025 financial year, we supported Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre (Kununurra), Earl Street Surgery (Narrogin), and Recherche Medical Centre (Esperance) to gain acceptance into the program.

By partnering with RVTS and local health services, we’re helping build rural capacity and deliver longterm health outcomes for remote WA communities, ensuring high-quality care from doctors who are invested in the places they serve.
