What is it like to be able to educate and boost the confidence of women in the Wheatbelt around menopause and perimenopause?
It is incredibly rewarding. In regional communities, there can be additional barriers to accessing specialised women’s health care. Being able to bring evidence-based menopause education directly into the community, where women can ask questions openly and without judgement, is really meaningful to me. It is not about telling women what they should do. It is about giving them the information and confidence to have better conversations with their healthcare professionals and make informed decisions about their own health.
How are you feeling ahead of this event?
I’m really excited and genuinely honoured to be part of it. I love speaking with women about menopause because the conversation is about so much more than symptoms and hormones. I’m particularly looking forward to hearing from the women in the Wheatbelt and understanding what matters to them. I don’t want this to be a one way conversation where I simply stand at the front and talk. I want women to feel comfortable asking the questions they may have been too embarrassed or unsure to ask before.
What does it mean to provide a free community event such as this?
It means removing one of the barriers to accessing good health information.
Menopause education shouldn’t only be available to women who can afford a private consultation or who live close to a specialist service. Every woman deserves access to reliable, evidence based information about her health.
