Aleisha’s role focuses on raising awareness of the impact of road trauma across regional and remote Western Australia. She brings a unique combination of experience as a high-performance athlete with the Hockeyroos, mental health advocate and qualified counsellor, holding a master’s degree in counselling.
About the session
Road trauma can have lasting effects that extend well beyond physical injuries, impacting the mental health and wellbeing of individuals, families and entire communities.
This session will explore how post-crash support can form part of patient care, particularly for people experiencing grief, trauma or other mental health impacts following a road incident.
Participants will gain:
- A greater understanding of the psychological and emotional impacts of road trauma on individuals, families and communities.
- An overview of Road Trauma Support WA (RTSWA) and its free, statewide, trauma-informed support and counselling services.
- Practical guidance on arranging third-party referrals to RTSWA.
- Increased confidence in connecting patients and families with appropriate post-crash support.
- An RTSWA referral and information pack to support referrals in practice.
