This Rural Health West CPD workshop is combined training for medical practitioners, GP obstetricians and midwives.  The workshop provides obstetric teams with the necessary skills to effectively manage problems which may occur during delivery and post-natal care.

This workshop content includes:

Extended Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP+)

Interactive sessions:

  • Discussing the physiology of transition and the NRP algorithm.
  • Discussing the initial steps in assessment and management of the newborn, methods of ventilation, equipment and techniques.
  • Discussing and illustrating techniques and tips for intubation.
  • Discussing medications, indications for and routes of administration.
  • Introducing a framework for problem-solving in newborn resuscitation, including special considerations in congenital malformations, complications of resuscitation and ethical considerations.

Practical workstations:

  • Set up of a neonatal resuscitaire and equipment initiation and coordination of airway, breathing and circulation support,
  • Newborn intubation (including videolarygngoscopic techniques)
  • Securing ETT and OGTs
  • Emergency umbilical venous catheter insertion
  • Emergency needle thoracocentesis

Resuscitation scenarios:

  • Assessment of teamwork
  • Assessment of leadership

Eligibility: GP obstetricians, medical practitioners and midwives. Priority is given to those working in the local region.

Length: One Day – 8.00am-5.00pm

Cost:
Midwives – $220
GP/GP obstetrician – $330
The cost of this workshop is subsidised by WA Country Health Service through the Better Medical Care Initiative.

Accreditation: This workshop has accreditation with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine for continuing professional development points/hours and is approved for the Rural Procedural Grants Program – Obstetrics Grant component.

We ask participants to contact their relevant college to ascertain your eligibility for the grant prior to attending.

Payment structure

You will receive an email link for payment in an event confirmation email. Payment is required within 10 days of receiving the email. If full payment is not received within 10 days, your place will be offered to another delegate.

Cancellation policy

  • Applicants who give notice of cancellation of four weeks or more will receive a full refund of the course fee.
  • Applicants who withdraw from the course 14 days prior will receive a 50 per cent refund of the course fee.
  • Applicants who fail to attend a course or who withdraw from the course less than 14 days of the course date will be considered on an individual case-by-case basis.
