Melanoma Diagnosis: Dermoscopy, total body photography, serial imaging and confocal microscopy

Presenter: Dr Helena Collgros MD FACD – Specialist Dermatologist and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. Dr Collgros works at Perth Dermatology and has been visiting Northam Hospital since 2023.

  • Limited places available
  • Light refreshments provided

Join us for an informative session exploring how dermoscopy is transforming melanoma diagnosis in clinical practice.

You’ll learn how dermoscopy improves diagnostic accuracy and helps reduce unnecessary excisions compared with clinical examination alone.

The session will also cover modern approaches to melanoma detection, including:
Total body photography for monitoring patients over time
Sequential digital dermoscopy to identify subtle lesion changes earlier
Reflectance confocal microscopy, providing real-time cellular imaging to support diagnosis and management decisions without biopsy

These advances allow clinicians to detect melanomas earlier while avoiding intervention for stable benign lesions, improving both clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness for high-risk patients.
