Supporting students to connect with Aboriginal health and culture is one of the many ways Rural Health West fosters future rural health leaders.

Debra Lee, one of several health students sponsored to attend the Aboriginal Health Conference 2024, shared her reflections on the experience:

“Just wanted to thank Rural Health West again for the amazing opportunity to attend the Aboriginal Health Conference over the weekend. It was very well organised and the sessions were very insightful and helpful to my daily practice. I really enjoyed the sessions I attended, including the trauma-informed care workshop, dermatological differences, and the clinical yarning workshop.

“The poster presentations were also run by very enthusiastic community members, which was lovely to hear about, and the keynote speakers all brought something different to the table. Overall I was really impressed with the level of discussions had over the weekend.

“I would love to hear about any future opportunities and ways I can continue to be involved in Aboriginal and rural health.”

Thank you, Debra – we’re proud to support students like you and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
