Putting the guideline back into practice – A practical guide for HPs supporting autistic children in Australia will be presented by Sarah Pillar, Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, Researcher at The Kids Research Institute and Lecturer at Edith Cowan University.
Sarah has over 10 years’ experience working with children and families across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
Her clinical and research interests focus on autism, early developmental differences, caregiver wellbeing and supporting children with complex communication support needs.
Sarah is currently undertaking her PhD at The University of Western Australia, examining early supports for autistic children and their families and understanding the experiences and mental health of caregivers. She has co-authored more than 20 peer reviewed publications and actively contributes to the translation of research into practice through the development of clinician, educator and parent resources, as well as being an author on Australia’s first National Guideline for Supporting Autistic Children.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will become knowledgeable of the Guideline and its relevance to working with autistic children and their families.
- Participants will be in a stronger position to implement the Guideline in their everyday clinical practice for the benefit of autistic children and their families.
**No prior knowledge or experience is required, however some experience as a health professional working with autistic children and their families is recommended to make the most out of participation in the seminar activities.
